Juice 2019 Gavi di Gavi, Lugarara, La Giustiniana, Piedmont, ITA
Grape 100% Cortese
Farming Traditional, Vegan
Tasting Note This wine has beguiling aromas of peach, nectarine, green apple and lime zest with hints of almond. A refreshing acidity on the palate carries the well-defined flavours onto the fresh finish.
This estate covers 110 hectares in the heart of the commune of Rovereto in Gavi, 40 hectares of which are under vine. Here the grapes give pure, rich and balanced wines. Two single vineyard wines are produced, both of which are unoaked so the character of each vineyard shines through in the glass. The 'Lugarara' is always the more open and forward of the two wines. The wine's aromas of stone fruit and lime peel are immediately beguiling, making this one of our most widely sold wines.
In our humble opinion La Giustiniana is one of the top producers from the Gavi di Gavi DOCG. We love both the single vineyard expressions they produce although we personally find the Lugarara so much more inviting, about as inviting as a Poolside Piña Colada on an island in the Bahamas. About as smashable as the aforementioned Piña Colada too!!
The classic pairing with Gavi di Gavi (and the Cortese grape in general) is simple grilled delicate white fleshed fish such as sea bass or cod steamed or roasted in a cheeky parcel, particularly with the addition of herbs and a generous drizzle of good quality olive oil. Serve said fish with a lovely green salad or wilted greens. We’d be quite partial to serve it with Spaghetti alla Vongole. If you want to get freaky, try left-over roast pork and apple sauce made into a door-step sandwich, washed down with the above. That slight prickly crunchy sparkle in the mouth cuts through the fattiness like a knife through butter.
