Juice 2019 Côtes de Provence, Studio, Miraval, Provence, FRA Cialdini, Modena, Emilia-Romagna, ITA
Grape 25% Grenache/Garnacha, 25% Tibouren, 25% Cinsault, 25% Rolle
Tasting Note The nose is fresh with notes of red berries and stone fruits. The palate has a lovely texture coupled with flavours of apricot, peach and white flowers which are well balanced with bright acidity.
Château Miraval is located in the Provence village of Correns, the first 100% organic village in France. All of the crops, including grapes, are grown organically in this wild and picturesque town. Tucked away in its own private valley, the château is surrounded by ancient woodlands and olive groves. Following ancient Celtic and Roman occupation, the property served as a host to monastic practice and as a home to members of the French court in the 14th century. Since 2012, the Perrin family has been involved in wine production at the estate, and has overseen investment in the latest winemaking technology and innovation.
All the varieties are vinified by direct pressing. The Cinsault and Tibouren are fermented in stainless steel-vats, the Grenache and Rolle are partially fermented (to music) in tulip-shaped concrete vats with a rounded bottom. This ovoid shape gives rise to a natural convection movement that suspends the lees creating the same effect as bâtonnage, adding texture and body to the wine with no need for stirring. Anyone mental enough to play music to fermenting grapes in an ovoid shaped vestal has our tick of approval.
Literally CUT and PASTE from the Esterlle… Poolside food, cuisine ‘sur la plage’ mixed seafood platter, or even the eponymous Provençal classic, Salad Niçoise. The fresh, salty, light and bright flavours composing the dish are essentially a plated up version of the wine. Summertime on a plate much like the wine is summertime in a bottle. If you’re feeling lazy then why not just slap up a plate of smoked salmon topped with a little red onion, capers, a healthy squeeze of lemon juice served with some dark rye bread and crème fraiche.
