Who?

The Tavignano estate was founded in 1973 by Stefano Aymerich di Laconi , who was a descendant of an ancient Sardinian family of Spanish origins with longstanding traditions of agricultural entrepreneurs. Tavignano is an estate of 230 hectares in a single body that dominates the countryside of Cingoli, which has always been known as the Balcony of the Marche.

Why?

We just love the vibrant, fresh, slightly saline maritime influence that this wine displays. The vineyards are overlooking the Adriatic sea, and you really do get a wonderful sense of place with each mouthful. Verdicchio can come in a range of styles, but we personally prefer Tavignano’s energetic, slightly more linear and direct expression. The quality versus price ratio is excellent as well.

With?

The Marche region is a treasure trove of regional delights. So, for our suggested food bearings, we are going to stay local: Moscioli (or wild mussels) are exclusive to the area of Conero, with the locals serving them simply with pasta and/or a tomato-based sauce. The salinity and freshness of the wine cuts through the sweetness of the tomatoes, pairing perfectly with the salty and briny flavour of the mussels. It will quite happily pair with a variety of lighter seafood dishes, antipasti, or for those of you who prefer a vegetable-only diet, a variety of spring vegetables such as zucchini, peas and green beans. Hard or soft ewe or goats milk cheeses will also pair an absolute treat.
