Juice 2016 Semillon, Louis, Henschke, Eden Valley, AUS
Grape 100% Semillon
Tasting Note Lemon curd, Nashi pear and stone-fruit aromas are elevated by notes of freshly cut meadow, biscuit and lanolin. Rich citrus, lemon butter and stone-fruit flavours are balanced with elegant and pure acidity, carrying the complex mid-palate along a clean and fine finish with excellent length.
The Henschke family have been making wine at their estate in the Eden Valley since 1868. Fifth-generation winemaker Stephen Henschke took over running the winery in 1979. Together with his viticulturist wife Prue, they have taken their two single vineyards, Hill of Grace and Mount Edelstone, and transformed them into two of Australia’s most sought-after wines. Through a combination of great viticulture from Prue, who is at the forefront of re-introducing native plants into their vineyards to improve biodiversity, and winemaking from Stephen, they have built upon their inheritance and turned this traditional producer into one that is recognised by savvy wine drinkers throughout the world.
Henscke wines are known the world over. The Hill of Grace Shiraz along with Penfold’s Grange, are, hands down, the two most iconic wines in Australia (with the price tags to match). We feel that this means that the whites they produce are often overshadowed but make no mistake they are absolutely superb as well and can be attained at a fraction of the price of their red stablemates.
This wine lends itself to a huge variety of pairings though we would firmly put freshly shucked oysters served with an Asian dressing. Two dressings we love are also super simple, 1.Chilli and ginger 2. A mix of soy, rice wine vinegar and sesame oil. Crab linguine or even a lovely crab and citrus salad would work wonders. The green notes in the wine match perfectly with spring veg such as asparagus and peas so why not whip up a cheeky pasta primavera or perhaps the classic French serve of asparagus with a poached egg and hollandaise sauce.
