Tasting Note On the nose, there are vibrant aromas of red fruits and floral nuances. The palate is well-balanced, with smooth tannins and a lively, refreshing acidity.

Who?

The Guedes family had always rated the quality of the Herdade do Peso grapes – they had been using them in their Vinha do Monte wines since the early 1990s – and jumped at the opportunity to purchase the estate in 1996. Situated in the south of the Alentejo, in the sub-region of Vidígueira, the Herdade do Peso estate covers a total of 457 hectares, 160 hectares of which are currently planted with vines. Winemaker Luís Cabral de Almeida makes expressive and generous wines that reflect the warmer climate of the Alentejo.

Why?

We find that one can find great value in the Alentejo region and the wines of Herdade Peso are no exception. Their wines offer an exceptional quality v price ratio. The Vidígueira sub region of Alentejo is one of the cooler areas and this combined with destemmed fruit, gentle extraction and very little oak usage ensures that the wine retains its freshness and vibrancy.

With?

The region of Alentejo is synonymous with soups and stews with various bases and the eponymous Alentejo Bread. We think the Trinca Bellotas would be an ideal pairing to the herby ‘Ensopado de borrego’ (Lamb Stew) though it would work equally well with game dishes and meats such as rabbit and partridge which are also found in abundance throughout the Alentejo region.
