What?

Juice 2018 Syrah, Gimblett Gravels, Trinity Hill, Hawkes Bay, NZ
Grape 100% Syrah
Farming Traditional, Vegan
Tasting Note Wild raspberry, blueberry, cracked pepper and hints of vanilla bean on the nose. Powerful and balanced ripe tannins give the wine great savoury structure. Oak plays a supporting role; the wine leads with a pure fruit expression. This purity, combined with refreshing natural acidity, make for excellent ageing potential.

Who?

Since its inception in 1993, partners John Hancock, who has been making wine in New Zealand for over 35 years, and Robert and Robyn Wilson, owners of The Bleeding Heart and The Don in London, have made Trinity Hill a byword for quality and consistency. Winemaker Warren Gibson has been with Trinity Hill since 1997. He is also in charge of the 80 hectares of vineyard owned by Trinity Hill, of which 47 are in the Gimblett Gravels.

Why?

We just love this particular expression of Syrah. The Gimblett Gravels are very particular soils, planted on the former bed of the Ngaruroro River. It is now a highly sought after sub-region renowned for the quality of its wines. It results in a wine of elegance, balance, drinkability and precision of flavour.

With?

We love to accentuate the cracked pepper character of the wine by pairing it with dishes that share the same profile. One could go down the French route and match it with the classic ‘Steak au Poivre’ (steak covered in a creamy peppercorn sauce). If you’re a fan of Chinese cuisine then we suggest a Beef and Black Pepper Stir Fry and if you’re not a fan of meat then meaty sautéed mushrooms with the addition of garlic and plenty of cracked black pepper would be an absolute sensorial delight.
