Tasting Note Rounded and ripe on the palate, with cherry and plum aromas along with a hint of spiced berries. The lovely balanced fruit and tannin structure are complimented by a hint of oak on the long elegant finish.
Who?
The Capezzana estate, 24 kilometres north-west of Florence, is owned by the Contini Bonacossi family. The younger generation is now firmly in charge of the estate's 80 hectares of vineyard, with daughter Benedetta Contini Bonacossi as winemaker and Francesco Bernabei as consultant winemaker. The wines and the olive oil have an elegance which marks this estate out from the crowd.
Why?
Every one of Benedetta’s wines show poise, balance, elegance and vibrancy much like the lady herself. We love the Barco Reale because of both its youthfulness and energy along with the fact it is just so damn drinkable. It is a staple in the homes of our team along with the estate’s Olive Oil which some would argue is Italy’s finest, the only issue being the availability! Not to mention the fact that the Bonacossi’s holistic approach in caring for their 80 hectare estate is just simply right up our alley.
With?
Our thoughts immediately drift to Cinghiale (Wild Boar) when considering what to pair with the Barco Reale. It is a staple of the Tuscan landscape and kitchen and we could think of nothing better than washing a plate of Paccheri and Wild Board Ragu down with a few glasses of the aforementioned juice. Roast rack of Lamb would be a lovely alternative with the structure of the Cab Sauv, firm tannins, ample acidity and the hint of oak softened by the richness of the Lamb.
