Who?

Mark Shannon and Elvezia Sbalchiero, the duo behind A Mano, have worked in the wine business for most of their lives. Elvezia is a northern Italian wine marketing expert and Mark is a Californian winemaker. They fell in love with Puglia and, when they decided to start their own label, made it their home.

Why?

We are suckers for a love story and the A Mano label is built on one. Elvezia and Mark not only fell in love with the region of Puglia but also each other in its glorious surroundings. It was the lure of Elvezia and Puglia that convinced Mark to move from his native America. This dynamic duo have succeeded in making Primitivo one of Italy's most talked about grape varieties by producing gorgeous yet inexpensive wines. They pay high prices for the best grapes from 70-100 year old vines and focus solely on quality and a modern style.

With?

The sweet and ripe fruit characters of Primitivo and the lack of oak used in this particular wine make it an ideal pairing for spicy curries (Indian in Particular) as well as spiced BBQ meats (think Turkish grill). For the less meat inclined drinker, roasted root vegetables, in particular Beetroot would be an absolute winner or if you’re feeling really fancy and some red wine stewed lentils in the mix for a serious vegetarian mouth party!
